One of the reasons I decided to move to Bordeaux was because I knew it had a fair few English bars. With my limited amount of French, I knew applying at these places would be my best hope of getting a job and earning a living. I didn’t realise just how many English pubs in Bordeaux there were though!
I thought it might be useful for others if I posted a list of all the English / Irish bars in Bordeaux that I know about. So here goes:

I managed to get a job at the Sherlock Holmes, wooohoo! This is especially super for me because I’ve previously enjoyed reading the adventures of the great detective. I think I have listed all the pubs here but if I discover any others or if any new English / Irish bars open then I will update the list.
[Update January 2014]
- The Dog and Duck
- 5 Quai Louis XVIII, 33000 Bordeaux

Hello, myself a few friends have tickets to watch Wales play in Bordeux on the Saturday. Most of us are English and would also like to watch the England game somewhere with English Commentry and friendly atmosphere. There are 8 of us in total and from 35 to 67. Any recommendations as to where we may be able to book a table?
I’d imagie most of the bars on the list will be showing it. Best bets would probably be Sherlock Holmes or Connemara in terms of space etc
Excellent list of pubs!
Great work
I’m Visiting bordeaux next week with 5 friends.
Are there any areas of bordeaux that have a high density of bars/ pubs / clubs in one area?
